With over 25 bestsellers to her name and multiple prestigious awards—including the For the Good of the World award and the International Children’s Festival cup—Kristina’s literary contributions extend beyond entertainment, fostering curiosity and cultural understanding.
In this exclusive interview, Kristina shares her journey behind her latest book Camel Omayyer and His Dream, which has now been released in both Arabic and English by one of the UAE’s top children’s publishers. She discusses her passion for storytelling, the importance of blending adventure with blogging, and the exciting possibility of turning Omayyer’s journey into an animated film.
1. Kristina, congratulations on the release of your book in Arabic and English! What inspired you to write Camel Omayyer and His Dream?
Thank you! The inspiration came from my deep love for travel and storytelling. I have always believed that stories have the power to transport readers to different worlds, sparking their imagination and encouraging them to see the world through new perspectives. The UAE has such a rich culture and breathtaking landscapes, and I wanted to create a tale that captures this magic for young readers.
Omayyer, the little camel with a big dream, represents the aspirations of many children who long to explore, connect, and create. His journey is not just about traveling but about believing in oneself and embracing curiosity.
2. This book incorporates adventure and blogging. Why was it important for you to include the theme of digital storytelling?
Children today are growing up in a digital world where blogging and social media play a major role in their daily lives. Many of them dream of becoming bloggers or influencers. But more than just chasing trends, I wanted to show them how storytelling—whether through words, images, or videos—can be a meaningful way to express themselves, share experiences, and connect with others.
Omayyer’s adventure highlights that creativity and authenticity matter. Blogging isn’t just about gaining followers—it’s about sharing a piece of your world and inspiring others.
3. The book was originally published in Russian. How does it feel to see it now available in Arabic and English?
It’s an incredible milestone! Arabic is one of the most poetic languages, and the UAE has a deeply rooted storytelling tradition, so it feels like a natural home for Omayyer’s story. I believe children here will connect with the book in a unique way.
Publishing in English, on the other hand, allows us to reach an even broader audience. Since this story is about cultural connection, friendship, and exploration, it’s important that it transcends language barriers. I’m thrilled that more children will get to join Omayyer on his journey.
4. What key lessons do you hope young readers will take from this book?
I want children to know that dreams are worth chasing, even when the road is filled with obstacles. Omayyer’s story is about perseverance, self-belief, and the importance of true friendships.
Another key message is the beauty of sharing experiences. Whether through travel, blogging, or storytelling, we can all learn from one another and appreciate different cultures. I hope the book sparks a love for adventure and inspires children to document their own journeys—whether on paper or through digital platforms.
5. With over 25 books, many of them bestsellers, where does Camel Omayyer and His Dream fit within your larger body of work?
All my books have a common thread: adventure, learning, and self-discovery. I love introducing young readers to different cultures, landscapes, and ideas.
This book is special because it not only tells a story but also introduces children to modern storytelling through blogging. It bridges traditional tales with contemporary media, making it a perfect fit for today’s young explorers.
6. How did your collaboration with Abu Dhabi publisher AlFulk come about?
AlFulk is known for its dedication to bringing high-quality literature to Arabic-speaking readers. When they approached me with the idea of publishing Camel Omayyer and His Dream in Arabic and English, I knew it was a perfect fit. They immediately understood the essence of the story and worked closely with me to ensure that it resonated with its new audience.
Collaborating with them has been an enriching experience, and I’m grateful for their commitment to making Omayyer’s story available to more readers.
7. You’ve received numerous prestigious awards. How have these recognitions shaped your work as an author?
Awards are always an honor, but what truly matters to me is how my stories inspire children. Recognition helps my books reach a wider audience, which means more kids get the chance to explore, dream, and discover through literature.
Each award reminds me of the responsibility I have as a writer—not just to entertain, but to educate and encourage young minds. I strive to write stories that leave a lasting impact, and these acknowledgments reinforce my commitment to that mission.
8. You are also a screenwriter and director. Given how cinematic this book is, do you see it becoming an animated film?
Absolutely! Camel Omayyer and His Dream has all the ingredients for a wonderful animated film—a heartwarming journey, a lovable main character, and a visually stunning setting that celebrates the UAE’s beauty.
In fact, my creative partner Anna Kameneva and I co-founded A&K Production, a company specializing in documentary and cinematic storytelling. One of our most notable projects, Women and Roads. The Way to Yourself, has taken us across the world—from Baikal and Mallorca to Uzbekistan and soon, Azerbaijan and the UAE. The series is about self-discovery through travel, which closely aligns with Omayyer’s story.
Given my background in screenwriting, I can easily envision Omayyer’s story expanding into animation or even a larger media project. It’s something I would love to explore further!
9. The book will be presented at the Sharjah International Book Fair. What can visitors expect at the event?
The Sharjah International Book Fair is a prestigious event, and I’m honored to be part of it. Visitors can expect an engaging session where I’ll discuss the book’s creation, share behind-the-scenes insights, and interact with young readers.
There will also be a book signing, and I look forward to answering questions from both children and parents. It’s always a joy to connect with readers and see how they interpret the story in their own unique ways.
10. What’s next for you as an author? Are there more adventures on the horizon?
Definitely! I’m always working on new books that explore themes of travel, adventure, and self-discovery. I also have several film projects in the pipeline, so there’s a lot to look forward to!
Storytelling, whether through books or film, is my passion. I’ll continue to create worlds that inspire young readers to dream big, embrace new cultures, and share their own stories with the world.
